Agos Watershed Protection

In 2011, the Foundation partnered with the Philippines Disaster Recovery Foundation (PDRF) and PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF) to help restore the Sapinit Sub-Watershed, a 95.4 hectare area within the Marikina Watershed. The watershed was Manila’s source of water many years ago. Deforestation and uncontrolled development in the area has degraded the watershed and contributed to the flooding of Metro Manila (eg. Typhoon Ondoy).

The Marikina Watershed Conservation project includes: conservation, reforestation, and sustainability; livelihood; and engaging the participation of the community in the wider Marikina Watershed initiative. It has an estimated 1,500 direct and indirect beneficiaries.
